Welcome to Paris 2016
Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce
Audi A5 and S5 Sportback
Audi RS3 saloon
Behold the majesty of the Audi RS3 saloon. Marvel at the fact that this compact saloon is packing a 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine – yes, five-cylinder – that delivers 400 raging horses. A proper old-school performance saloon with the fabulous burble of a five-pot engine. Figures: 0-60mph in a touch over four seconds and a limited top speed of 155mph. Ask Audi nicely and somebody will raise this to 174mph. You’ll be back from Paris quicker than you could say ‘still want that Golf R?’
Audi Q5
Looks good, doesn’t it? We kind of knew what to expect, but the Audi Q5 is far more pleasant to look at than the gargantuan Q7. It’s up to 90kg lighter than the outgoing Q5 and will be available with a choice of five different engines: four diesels, one petrol. It goes on sale early 2017 and you just know it will sell like very hot cakes.
BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo
From an entirely new BMW to a reworking of an existing model. The 3 Series Gran Turismo has been treated to a short back and sides, while all the engines are up on power and down on fuel consumption. BMW has also improved the interior and will now offer the latest version of its navigation system.
BMW Concept X2
Revealed in Paris as a near-production concept car, the BMW Concept X2 is a sporty crossover, slotting between the X1 and X3 in the firm’s range. In essence, this is a high-riding version of the 2 Series and fills a gap in BMW’s range of SUVs and crossovers. It’s likely to go on sale in 2018, with a price upwards of £30,000.
BMW i3
BMW has unveiled a host of changes for its i3 electric car, including higher density lithium-ion cells, which increase the battery capacity to 33kWh. This increases the range from 118 to 186 miles. This is available as a retro-fit option for existing i3 owners. Other changes include new interior trim and two new paint options.
BMW i8 Protonic Dark Silver Edition
It might sound like the name of a new Batman movie, but it’s actually a new special-edition BMW i8. Set to go into production in December, the i8 features Protonic Dark Silver paint. Aside from that, everything else is unchanged. Ask your BMW dealer for the Dark Knight edition. That ought to do it.

Dacia Duster
For the first time, the Dacia Duster comes with an automatic six-speed dual clutch transmission. It’s mated to the 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine and is available on Laureate and Prestige models. It might be the cheapest crossover in the UK, but it remains one of the most appealing.
Dacia Sandero/Sandero Stepway/Logan MCV
Dacia has refreshed its entire range of vehicles, with a new look for the Sandero, Sandero Stepway (seen here) and Logan MCV. Granted, the changes are subtle, but the cars look good, especially the faux off-roader that is the Stepway. The cabins have been improved, while a new 75hp 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine is available.

Infiniti QX Sport
Fancy one of these rather than BMW X3? The Infiniti QX Sport is a concept that was first unveiled at Beijing but has now made its European debut at Paris. When it goes on sale, it could be a replacement for the Infiniti QX50. If those wheels look a little large, it’s because they’re 22-inch rims. And yes, there are bronze in colour. Because motor show.

Lamborghini Centenario Roadster

Lexus UX concept
If Lexus is to be believed, this is the compact SUV you’ll be driving in the future. Which means you’ll need to get used to massive wheel arches, rear-hinged back doors and front and rear cameras in lieu of door mirrors. We’d expect the production version to be scaled back, but the UX concept is nothing if not striking.

Opel Ampera-E
Mitsubishi ASX
Mitsubishi’s ASX crossover is getting old and has never sold in as huge numbers as the bigger Outlander. But it’s been given a facelift for Paris, following Mitsubishi’s new ‘dynamic shield’ identity. Along with the cosmetic updates, the ASX gets a new 1.6-litre turbodiesel and extra options, including new 18-inch alloys.

SsangYong LIV-2
This, er, interesting concept car previews what a replacement for the archaic SsangYong Rexton. The ‘Limited Interface Vehicle’ 2 follows the LIV-1, and is packed with “a suite of advanced communication technologies”, such as a fully connected centre console, three displays, wifi mirroring and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

Vauxhall Mokka X
‘X’ marks the spot on the Opel stand to see the new Mokka X. The exterior has been given a mild refresh, while it’s now available with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It’s hardly exciting, but the availability of OnStar and Apple CarPlay at least brings the Mokka X right up-to-date.
Vauxhall Viva Rocks
It’s on show here as the Opel Karl Rocks, but in the UK it’ll be badged as the Vauxhall Viva Rocks. It boasts a raised ride height, ‘rugged’ body cladding and a ‘robust’ interior to give it the look and feel of a Rover Streetwise for a new generation. Ask your parents…
Vauxhall Zafira Tourer
The facelifted Vauxhall Zafira Tourer is set to go on sale next month after making its public debut at Paris. A tweaked front- and rear-end have more than a passing resemblance to the latest Astra, while more connectivity tech should tempt S-Max buyers.
Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6
You may have seen photos of this at Pebble Beach back in the summer, but nothing can prepare for seeing the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 in the metal. It’s as long as it is glorious and as imposing as a Maybach concept should be. It looks like a vision of an electric future that’s been thrust straight out of the 1930s.
