Ever since the sub-four meter sedans have entered our market, it has become quite confusing for the buyers whether to buy the hatchback or its sedan derivative because most of the sub-four meter sedans are basically the boot added version of hatchbacks and they are quite identical in terms of looks, features and engine. The biggest reason for the confusion is their slight price difference and that brings the question whether to buy the hatchback or the sedan version and such is the case with Honda Brio and Amaze. The Brio is all set to get a facelift which will make it almost identical to the Amaze which was given a mild facelift some time ago. Which one to go for? Let us find out in this article.

Dimensions
The Brio facelift will get a new front grill and bumper which will make it look identical to the Amaze. There will be new lines on its front bumper while it will share its headlamps with the Amaze. The side profile will remain same as before apart from new design for its 14-inch alloy wheels while the tail lamp will be re-designed to give it a fresh look. There will not be much difference in the physical dimensions of the Brio and it is likely to remain very much the same.
The Amaze and Brio will share their width of 1680mm while the Amaze is likely to be only 5mm higher than the Brio at a height of 1505mm. The only visual and physical difference between both cars will start from the C-pillar which makes Amaze 380mm longer than the current Brio. This additional length of Amaze also contributes to its longer wheelbase of 2405mm which is 60mm longer than the wheelbase of Brio however both cars share their ground clearance of 165mm which is slightly low for our Indian roads. Both cars will ride on 14-inch wheels and the petrol version of Amaze is only 30kg heavier than the Brio. But the best part about this additional weight is that Amaze has a larger boot capacity of 400L which is 225L more than the small boot of Brio.

Engine
Honda is likely to launch Brio with a petrol engine only which will be the same 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol engine which also powers the Amaze. They will have the tried and tested 1.2L petrol engine which has a power output of 87bhp@6000rpm with a maximum torque output of 109Nm which is available at 4500rpm. This engine comes standard with a five-speed manual gearbox and they are very high chances that Honda will offer this engine in Brio with an optional CVT as well same as Amaze. It is very unlikely that Brio will be launched with a diesel engine which is powering the Amaze. It is a 1.5L, 99bhp diesel engine which is only available with a five-speed manual gearbox.

Interiors and Features
This will be one major change inside the cabin of new Brio as it now shares the new dashboard with the Amaze which makes it look up-market. The new dashboard includes new instrument console which is different from Amaze has a different color backlit as well. The top variant will now also have automatic climate control while the overall interior of both cars look exact the same. The slim seats provide brilliant leg room in both cars and the airy cabins are one of the biggest strengths of these cars. The feature list will also be similar in both cars which includes power adjustable and foldable ORVMs, keyless entry, all power windows, infotainment system with steering mounted controls, fabric upholstery, alloy wheels, front fog lamps, rear de-fogger, dual front airbags and ABS.

Verdict
Currently the starting variant of Amaze petrol is priced at INR 5.64lakhs (Ex-showroom, Delhi) which makes it around 90K more expensive than the current Brio. But with the new prices, this difference is going to decrease since the new Brio will be slightly more expensive than the outgoing model. This will again confuse the buyers that which one to go for because at the pricing of entry level variant of Amaze which gets only basic features, they can have the decently feature equipped mid variant of Brio which is powered by the same engine and has almost similar interiors and exterior looks. The only possible reason why we would suggest you to go for Amaze over Brio is if it is going to become the only car in family because then it will be used for family outing and it should be comfortable for five passengers and should have some luggage space as well else Brio is our pick for the day. The Brio will have higher power to weight ratio and will offer more features and enthusiastic performance at a lower price.
